On Her Throwing with Luke Gross

The weekend of Sept 11-13, the EPRU held two consecutive coaching workshops.  The Luke Gross Extended Lineout Workshops, held at LaSalle University in Philadelphia Friday evening, and at Stanton Middle School in Stanton DE on Sunday, were highly successful.  A total of 20 coaches and approximately 60 players participated in the two practical coaching workshops.  This USA Rugby coach education opportunity, it's new Extended Lineout Workshop was presented by veteran Eagle lock and lineout specialist Luke Gross.

The LaSalle University and the Philadelphia Women's Rugby Club, in conjunction with the annual Pumpkinfest tournament, and the Wilmington Rugby Club (lunch provided by Buckley’s Tavern of Centerville , DE), did the hosting duties for the two events.

In addition to the two Lineout Workshops, Luke Gross participated in the second annual Women's Referee Development Workshop, addressing both the breakdown area and the lineout.
The event brought interest from U-19 and senior sides as well as some of the EPRU collegiate premiere Division 1 programs, University of DE, Kutztown U, and Princeton University Women, with both players and coaching staff in attendance. Bob Weir, USA Coaching Development Program Course Leader said,” The ratio between coaches and players enabled both groups to get a tremendous amount of work done over the 4 hours and the Continuing Education Units offered (5) was particularly appreciated by the coaches.”

Selected video clips will be posted at coachingrugby.blogspot.com.

The men’s and women’s rugby teams are under new leadership this season, as both teams hired new coaches over the summer. Lou Gana, the head coach of the men’s team, looks to take the team to new territory, while Head coach Ali El-Kerdi looks to keep the winning tradition here with the women’s team.
