Explorers Open League Season with 66-0 Victory
Match Reports
Monday, 05 October 2009 11:59

La Salle opened up their league season with a 66-0 romp over The College of New Jersey. The Explorers signaled their intentions early when junior Brittany McKenna returned the open kick off for score underneath the posts. La Salle's early season injury bug has given first year players ample opportunity to get on the field, with four players entering the starting lineup for the contest vs TCNJ. They'll need all the experience they can get this coming Sunday when they face a friendly versus DI national champions Penn State.

"It's all about development when it  comes to friendly matches," said coach Kristin Aliberto. "Clearly in the non league games the scores are less relevant than advancing individual and team development goals. Even in league matches, when the level of play is uneven you need to make sensible lineup choices that help develop your players and display sportsmanship towards your opponent. Next weekend we will be on the other side of that equation and we'll work with Penn State to make sure the game is useful competition for both teams."

La Salle Taking it to the Next Level-Collegian

The men’s and women’s rugby teams are under new leadership this season, as both teams hired new coaches over the summer. Lou Gana, the head coach of the men’s team, looks to take the team to new territory, while Head coach Ali El-Kerdi looks to keep the winning tradition here with the women’s team.
