LSWR beat Bryn Mawr 17-7 in sloppy conditioning on Saturday. The game took back stage to the weather which featured dropping temperatures, high winds and horizontal rain. Despite the conditions, LSWR was able to pin Bryn Mawr in their end for most of the game. Bryn Mawr's tenacious work in the defensive rucks and La Salle's poor handling in the wet conditions prevented LSWR from capitalizing on their field position.
The day was a big one for La Salle. For the first time the club had the opportunity to play in front of friends, alumni and parents in middle of homecoming festivities. The game was played in McCarthy Stadium, the former home of the football team and current home of the varsity soccer and lacrosse teams. Playing on a turf field was a new experience for the majority of the team, who last played a game on turf in the spring of 2007 while visiting Kutztown. The weather proved a decisive factor as the temperature, wind and rain effected the players and the ball. In addition to the slippery ball one expects in rainy conditions, hookers, kickers and back triangle players had to deal with the wind. The winds especially played havoc with high balls, which became difficult to track. The horizontal rain, overcast conditions and late afternoon start time also provided a stiff challenge to tracking the ball in the air. Field lighting turned on very late in the game, helping to improve the situation. La Salle finishes their fall season this weekend at the EPRU DII playoffs, held at Princeton University. The team will kick off against DII national champions Shippensburg university at 2:30pm.
