LSWR Battles Tough Competition at VWIT Tournament
Match Reports
Tuesday, 03 March 2009 13:14

LSWR traveled to the University of Virginia for a preseason tournament this past weekend. Thanks to their fall success they were invited to compete in the Virginia Women's Invitational Tournament. With their first MARFU playoff game several weeks away LSWR battled the elements and stiff DI competition in preparation for what they hope will be a extended playoff run.

Despite the impending snow storm, LSWR continued with plans to attend the tournament, they were rewarded with stiff competition in Charlottesvilles. LSWR started the tournament with a solid 17 to 5 victory of Indiana University. Indiana had ventured south for the same reason as the Explorers, to prepare for their own playoff run in Midwest DI final four. The second match of the day proved far more challenging for La Salle. La Salle lost a difficult contest to tournament host Virginia, 44-5. For the Explorers it was their most challenging contest since their fall encounter with DI, MARFU front runner Navy.

The second day had a different set of challenges for LSWR. With a half inch of snowy slush on the turf pitch, La Salle played Maryland. The game tested the Explorer's physical and mental toughness, as the scored ended 10-10 after regulation. Despite controlling possession for much of the extra frame, Maryland was able to strike first in sudden death overtime.

LSWR will face Rutgers this Friday night at Rutgers in their final game before the spring holiday.
