The Explorers ended their season in frustrating fashion by losing 22-20 to North Philadelphia rival Temple University. La Salle made the final by defeating Gettysburg 41-10 on Saturday. By qualifying for the final La Salle is guaranteed a home playoff game during the first round of MARFUs, March 19th. The final was a frustrating one for La Salle, who despite having the bulk of the possession, found themselves turning over the ball at key moments. Temple efficiently used these turnover opportunities, with all of their points coming off sequences following a turnover or penalty. LSWR had numerous line breaks but was stifled by a lack of secondary support, which led to numerous holding on penalties, effectively killing many drives in Temple territory.
Despite the loss coach Kristin Aliberto so a lot of up side to the weekend, "we're moving on to MARFUs in a higher seed that last year, despite graduating some of our key role players from last year. This team is really young, over 20 of our 34 players are underclassman and their learning curves are so high. I have no doubt that'll move away from this loss with lessons learned and after some time off gear up for off season activities. No on believes this is an end, just a beginning for our spring season." |
